Heat pumps that are designed first and fitted second
An air-source heat pump takes heat from the outside air, even in cold weather, and moves it into your home's heating and hot water. It runs on electricity rather than gas, so it's a way to reduce your reliance on fossil fuels and heat your home with lower carbon emissions.
Heat pumps work differently from boilers. They run at lower flow temperatures for longer, which means the design has to match the house: how much heat each room loses, the size of the radiators and the hot water demand. That's why every heat pump job with us starts with a proper survey including heat-loss calculations.
Greenwich Heating Solutions installs air-source heat pumps only. We're approved installers for Baxi and Vaillant, and we hold heat pump installation and design certifications. We also service heat pumps and carry out diagnostics and repairs.
GHS is not directly MCS certified. We can arrange installations through an MCS umbrella scheme where applicable, so eligible customers can access the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant. We'll talk you through what this means for your project at the survey.

You receive a fixed-price quotation. Timescales depend on the project, so we'll be clear about them rather than guess.

Outdoor unit, cylinder and controls fitted, then the system commissioned and tested in heating and hot water modes.

Handover & guarantee
We explain how to get the best from the system, and your installation carries our 2-year workmanship guarantee plus the manufacturer's warranty.
Installations normally require a 50% deposit, with the remaining 50% payable on completion. We accept bank transfer, card and cash.

Air-source heat pumps explained
Here's what goes into a heat pump installation, and the situations where it makes sense.
How air-source heat pumps work
The outdoor unit draws in air and uses a refrigerant cycle to raise its temperature, then transfers that heat to the water in your heating system and hot water cylinder. Because it moves heat rather than burning fuel, it can deliver more heat energy than the electricity it uses.
We install air-source heat pumps only. We don't offer ground-source systems.
The survey and heat-loss calculation
The £250 + VAT survey includes heat-loss calculations and an assessment of your property. We look at each room, the existing radiators and pipework, where the outdoor unit and cylinder can go, and how much hot water your household uses. This is what the design, and the quote, are based on.
Radiators and emitters
Heat pumps run at lower water temperatures than gas boilers, so some rooms may need larger radiators to stay comfortable. The heat-loss calculation shows exactly which rooms need attention, so you only change what's necessary.
Hot water cylinders
Heat pump systems store hot water in a cylinder. Our G3 unvented hot water qualification covers unvented cylinder installation, delivering mains-pressure hot water to your taps and showers.
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme and MCS
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme is a government grant towards the cost of a heat pump for eligible customers, and it requires an MCS-certified installation. GHS is not directly MCS certified, but we can arrange installations through an MCS umbrella scheme where applicable, so eligible customers can access the grant. Eligibility depends on your circumstances, and we'll discuss it at the survey.

Servicing, diagnostics and repairs
Heat pump servicing starts from £220 + VAT. If your system isn't performing, heat pump diagnostics are £180 + VAT for the first hour, with further investigation and repairs quoted separately. We work on existing heat pumps as well as our own installations.
